Hello, I hope you can access the weekly posts ok, I have run into a few technical issues.... This week students have taken home a newsletter that outlines our exciting community linked project. We are very excited and have been doing a great deal of learning around water and landforms, our Earth, biomes, minerals, reactions and energy.

Congratulations to our DUATHLON athletes. I was very proud of all who participated and we had some great successes and examples of persistence. We had a couple of outstanding results too...Freyja (year 5) competed as an individual and was first overall in year 5 against all teams, both boys and girls. Ariariterangi and Daniel also entered as individuals, with Ari finishing strongly as well and Daniel doing really well until an injury caused him to pull out with only the last run to finish.
For those who gave it their best effort, even those who do not really enjoy participating...Well done! You did a wonderful job! I have had some internet issues...this is the 3rd time I have attempted to post!
The students are off to a busy start and we are learning all of the activities and revisiting expectations. We have been doing athletics training and getting to know each other. We have begun to learn about sustainability and there are some exciting events coming soon. Thank you for your patience with the homework site issues. I was really impressed with those students who completed their whanau koru - some were absolutely outstanding! Keep watching this space. Crazy but true, week one is nearly all done! Friday is Waitangi Day (Whakarewarewa Village usually have some great activities for families on Waitangi Day - listen out on the local radio stations, check the community newspapers or maybe call to check).
Room 12 is getting to know each other, getting through a truckload of admin and learning what we expect from each other. I have been absolutely delighted with the way that each and every one of the students in Room 12 are treating each other with RESPECT. It is a key focus for me and one of our term one CORNERSTONE VALUES - Values that are essential to our Malfroy School learning community. The other two this term are DUTY (which is the foundation of all of our values) and RESPONSIBILITY. There are some wonderful opportunities for students to 'step up' and take responsibility at Malfroy School, such as Ambassadors (Congratulations to TRENT and MAIA who have already been selected), for year six students and Dynamos (Sports leaders), Receptionists, Librarians, Road Patrollers, Milk Monitors, and Health Busters, for years 5 and 6). |
